Tony Buntyn is a businessman running for Florida’s 11th Congressional District. Tony has been married to his wife Carol for 23 years. The Buntyns reside in South Tampa where their two children attend public schools and are active members of Palma Ceia Presbyterian Church.
Tony is an internationally recognized thought leader in Cyber Warfare. He has worked in Information Technology for over 25 years in the private sector with various industries and has worked for large corporations such as USAA and Raytheon. Currently Buntyn is the owner of U.S. Cyber Solutions, Inc., a small business in Tampa, Florida, where he continues to serve as a consultant for key cyber security companies to enhance cyber warfare capabilities for the US and her allies. He understands that the American economy is powered by the private sector and that maintaining a competitive advantage is as important to the nation as it is to business.
Tony is also a Colonel in the US Air Force Reserve*. Tony enlisted in 1979 and he earned a commission in 1984. He has served in the Mississippi Air National Guard, the Texas Air National Guard and the US Air Force Reserve for over 31 years.
Since September 11, 2001, Tony has been activated three times, specifically sought after by the USAF for his civilian experience. He has served overseas in Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and stateside for Operation Noble Eagle and disaster relief efforts such as Hurricane Katrina. Most recently, Tony was the Vice Commander of the USAF Cyber Command Provisional at Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana. Tony’s efforts led to the creation of the 24th Air Force, a warfighting Command with a $6B budget and 20,000+ Active, Guard, and Reserve personnel.
In 2002-2003 Tony served at Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar to establish the USAF’s Combined Air Operation Center which commands all combat air operations in the Middle East for US Central Command. Tony led the team that built the $70M command center and served as the Deputy Director of Communications. Tony has earned numerous decorations for his service including the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star Medal, and the Lone Star Distinguished Service Medal.
Tony received a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science/Data Processing from the University of Southern Mississippi and a Master of Science in Management, Computing, and Systems from Houston Baptist University. He also completed Air War College and Air Command and Staff College as part of his professional military education.
Tony is an Eagle Scout and is a member of American Legion Post 138, VFW Post 4321, National Guard Association of the US, National Rifle Association, and serves as Treasurer of the Information Systems Security Association Tampa Bay Chapter.
Tony will work to minimize government intrusion in the private sector which threatens our economy, decrease government spending, reform our tax system, secure our borders, balance our budget, invest in education, and strengthen our military.
